Brian talks about IT in the medical aesthetics world.
Sramana Mitra: Let’s introduce MedShift and yourself to our audience.
Brian Phillips: Thanks for having me. I’m the CEO of MedShift. We are a medical technology company based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
>>>Sramana Mitra: How common is using a system like yours in a practice? If you took the entire gamut of providers, what percentage does your category of technology have in that spectrum?
Lauren Patrick: There’re 1.4 million providers in the US. What CMS has done is say, “If you don’t provide data to us on this program, we are going to penalize you 9% of all of your Medicare payments in the following year.” We get a very large percentage of providers that participate in this program.
>>>Sramana Mitra: Let’s take the example that you started with – hip surgery in the case of an orthopedic provider. There are specific gold standard quality metrics that the central organizations provide related to a hip surgery.
When you are pulling data from an EHR system, are those records against every metric you are trying to pull data from?

Sramana Mitra: Let’s start by introducing our audience to yourself as well as Healthmonix.
Lauren Patrick: I’m the Founder and CEO of Healthmonix. I started the company in 2009. It’s been 11 years. We help care providers provide better evidence-based care and better outcomes for patients in the United States.
>>>Sramana Mitra: What is your assessment of the post-COVID world? What are some open problems in the post-COVID world where you would like to see new startups?
Eric Langshur: It would be around virtual care. We are on track to a billion virtual visits this year. Every provider in the world has gotten that memo. Virtual care is here to stay and it’s creating massive opportunities to help the entire healthcare economy do a better job of that.
>>>Sramana Mitra: Explain to me specifically how the product that you sell is applied to the use case that you discussed.
Eric Langshur: If you are a healthy system executive and you are responsible for creating an online portal, for example, a digital front door for Saint Joseph’s health system.
>>>Sramana Mitra: Let me ask you three specific issues that you are seeing across your client base that they address and in turn create a major impact.
Eric Langshur: This was where I was going with the knowledge economy. We understand that information and best practices are liquid in the healthcare economy. We created a tool that brings the industry into the knowledge economy by capturing all this information on a digital platform that we make available to our members and beyond.
>>>A broad discussion on trends in healthcare.
Sramana Mitra: Let’s start by having you introduce yourself as well as AVIA.
Eric Langshur: I am the co-founder and Executive Chairman of AVIA. AVIA is a US-based enterprise. We represent well over $200 billion of the net patient revenue of health systems.
