166th Roundtable Recap: March 21 – Differentiation Is Key

Posted on Thursday, Mar 21st 2013

Today’s roundtable had three long pitches and a few additional short discussions on elevator pitches by entrepreneurs.

CourseGarage.com
First up, Shikha Chaudhry from Ghaziabad, India, pitched CourseGarage.com. She proposes to offer a set of courses to teenagers with the purpose of familiarizing them with what various career paths entail. For example, what does it mean to become a Computer Scientist? Or a lawyer? An architect? We had an interesting discussion around what sparks real interest in kids – stories or subject matter? And in the days of the Internet, with kids like 15-year old Radhika Ghosal taking MIT’s Circuits and Electronics course on her own from EdX, where is the real gap?

Mobile GestBuk
Then, Gurpreet Singh from Toronto, Canada, pitched Mobile GestBuk, a real-time, mobile customer feedback solution for retail, hospitality, and airline industries. The product’s closes competitor is Medallia, a savvy company with deep domain knowledge, entrenched customers, and significant revenues. Gurpreet needs a competitive positioning that is rock solid.

165th Roundtable Recap: March 14 – Spotlight On ProductNation, India

Posted on Thursday, Mar 14th 2013

Today’s roundtable put the spotlight on entrepreneurs from ProductNation, an initiative by iSPIRT– a think-tank focused on transforming India into a hub for new generation software products. As you might know, India is a country firmly positioned on the global IT map, but as a service destination. For years, outsourcing has been the nation’s primary IT activity. I deliberately provoked a debate on the subject in 2008 with Death of Indian Outsourcing.

I have, personally, advocated the product direction for many years. On my blog, many discussions have been held over the years on the topic. On March 3, 2007, Sujai Karampuri, a passionate entrepreneur from India wrote a guest post that drummed up active discussion that continues till today, six years later!
