During today’s roundtable, as part of the launch event for my book, Carnival In The Cloud, we had Ann Winblad, Co-founder of Hummer Winblad, as our guest. Ann is one of the most successful women VCs in our industry, and as I mentioned in my introduction, I have never heard her whining about bias against women.

One of the most encouraging things she discussed today is how her firm is sourcing interesting ventures from all over the world, not just Silicon Valley. Mulesoft, one of their hot portfolio companies, had its CEO based in Malta, originally!

Roundtable Recap: December 4 – Bootstrapping With A Paycheck With Shomit Ghose, Onset Ventures

During today’s roundtable, as part of the launch event for my new book, Bootstrapping With A Paycheck, we had Shomit Ghose, a veteran startup executive with multiple IPOs under his belt, now a Partner at Onset Ventures, as our guest. Shomit highlighted the fact that last year 70,000 ventures received angel funding, but the number of companies receiving venture funding remains constant year over year at about 1000 a year. Focusing on building value is of paramount importance, so that you can validate and prove your value proposition.

Bevyr
First up, Naga Sridhar Madiraja from Hyderabad, India, pitched Bevyr, a marketplace concept for pairing philanthropic projects with CSR programs. There were many other ideas in the pitch, but the ones I zeroed in on as viable was this one.
