Roundtable Recap: September 3 – Down To Earth Execution

During this week’s roundtable, we further pursued the topic of down to earth execution, versus bubble behavior, and spoke with Tim Hentschel, CEO at HotelPlanner and Meetings.com, who has bootstrapped his company to $25M in revenue, growing 20% y-o-y organically. Tim emphasized our mantra of entrepreneurship = customers + revenues + profits, financing, exit, valuation all being optional. Of course, today’s atmosphere is so frothy that such fundamental-oriented thinking has few takers.

The Beer Exchange
As for the pitches, First up, Rethesh George from Charlotte, NC, pitched The Beer Exchange, a marketplace where craft beer lovers can buy beer from eclectic retailers far away, as well as exchange beers among themselves. Interesting, straightforward concepts. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work, other than poor execution.

Roundtable Recap: August 27 – Showcase of Women Entrepreneurs

During this week’s roundtable, we had an unusual pitch roster of the first three entrepreneurs being women.

RegDesk
First up, Priya Bhutani from Chicago, Illinois, pitched RegDesk, a marketplace for healthcare regulatory experts who can complete projects for major pharmaceutical and medical device companies. The company also has a subscription-based regulatory information service, and is currently in revenue.

Gazillion Fund
Next Ann Shin from Santa Clara, California, pitched Gazillion Fund, a Kickstarter for fashion designers offered on a mobile app format. The concept seems fine. Execution will determine success.
