Roundtable Recap: November 12 – Great Discussions and Q&A

During this week’s roundtable, we had two presentations and a very interesting set of discussions on specific topics.

ThirdEye
First up, Raghu Venkatesh from Bangalore, India, pitched ThirdEye, a Virtual Reality technology platform. I spent most of my time explaining to him how to think about bringing a product to market, as opposed to the pure R&D thought process. Raghu is smart, he can and needs to learn some business strategy next.

eBZaar
Next, Viral Thakker from Mumbai, India pitched eBZaar, a grocery shopping service. We had a comprehensive discussion on strategy, including the choice of launch city, target demographics, etc. Viral was extremely receptive to my feedback.

Roundtable Recap: November 5 – Conflict Is Good For Growth

During this week’s roundtable, we had a somewhat higher degree of conflict than usual. So I asked everyone after the pitches, how they felt about it. It was an interesting discussion, and by and large, people said they were comfortable with conflict in the process of making progress.

As for the pitches, first up, Neerav Jain from Gurgaon, India, pitched CityFurnish.com, an online furniture rental service. Neerav already has 600 transactions on his platform, mainly from the hospitality industry. The business concept is simple and makes plenty of sense. We had disagreements about he market size, and consequent fundability issues. I was happy to see that Neerav is thinking about things the right way: susrvival first, business building first, investors may be, not a must.
