Roundtable Recap: September 11 – Lots Of Uncut Diamonds

Today’s roundtable had five presentations, and as usual, an international representation.

iTrans Technologies
First up, Mallesh Reddy from Singapore pitched iTrans Technologies, a platform for auto insurance companies to implement user behavior based pricing. The company is already doing $1M in revenue, and shows strong potential for success.

PoolCircle
Next, Raghu Ramanujam from Bangalore, pitched PoolCircle, a car-pooling solution for urban dwellers. Raghu’s company has graduated from the Microsoft accelerator in Bangalore. Details of the business plan are yet to be fully fleshed out.

Roundtable Recap: September 4 – From eCommerce To Web 3.0 With Gus Tai, Trinity Ventures

Today’s roundtable kicked off our fall programming with the launch of my new book, From E-Commerce to Web 3.0, and a wonderful conversation with Gus Tai, General Partner at Trinity Ventures.

Gus talked about his (and Trinity’s) investment thesis around e-commerce over the years – from BlueNile in 1999, to Zulily, Dot and Bo, and Callisto Media more recently, and what he anticipates for the future. In fact, if you are looking for a fundable area of business that he is interested in, please listen carefully to the conversation.

Niuzly
As for the pitches, first up, Paul Dinulescu from London, England, pitched Niuzly, an attempt to address the media industry’s problem with free loaders. [I recently commented on this: Entrepreneur Dysfunctions: Obsession with Free.] Paul proposes a micro-transaction based solution a la iTunes for music, but we feel that the media companies would not play ball with a startup to adopt such a solution. Apple, or perhaps FlipBoard, with millions of users, may be able to bring them to do something like this, but not a startup.
