Early this year, vibe coding platform Replit raised $400 million in funding at a valuation of $9 billion and said it was on track to reach $1 billion ARR by the end of 2026. It also disclosed that it now serves more than 50 million users, including teams at 85% of the Fortune 500.
Replit’s Origin Story
Replit is one of the most remarkable AI startup stories of the past decade. Founded in 2016 by Amjad Masad, Faris Masad, and Haya Odeh, Replit began with an ambitious vision: make software development accessible from any browser, on any device, without requiring developers to install complex toolchains.
For nearly eight years, Replit built a loyal following among students, educators, hobbyists, and professional developers. It competed with established developer tools by making coding collaborative, cloud-native, and simple. It was a respected developer platform.
Then generative AI changed everything.
The AI Pivot
Rather than treating AI as another coding assistant, Replit fundamentally reimagined its product.
Instead of helping programmers write code faster, Replit began enabling anyone to build software simply by describing what they wanted in natural language. This shifted the company from being an online IDE to becoming an AI-native, full-stack software creation platform.
The market responded dramatically. According to the company, annualized revenue grew from just $2.8 million in 2024 to $150 million in less than one year following the launch of its AI agent capabilities. It ended 2025 with annual revenue of $240-$300 million.
Replit has so far raised $922 million across 9 funding rounds, highlighted by a massive $400 million Series D round in March 2026 that valued the company at $9 billion. It had raised $250 million in September 2025 at a valuation of $3 billion. Its investors include Georgian, Andreessen Horowitz, Coatue, G Squared, Prysm Capital, 1789 Capital, Y Combinator, and Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Google’s AI Futures Fund, and Amex Ventures.
Users and Churn
The AI pivot has pushed the company past 50 million users and 500,000 professional business customers, including at companies such as Zillow, Labcorp, Atlassian, PayPal and Adobe.
About 85% of Fortune 500 companies use Replit and the enterprise segment has helped it keep the churn low and the margins high. CEO Amjad Massad says that it has been gross margin positive for over a year. Their churn is very, very low and net retention rate is as high as 300%. He adds that enterprises often get comfortable with the full Replit stack. For instance, Bain & Company replaced Tableau and Power BI with Replit and Databricks.
The Coming Wave of AI-Built Businesses
As software creation becomes nearly frictionless, millions of applications will inevitably be built.
Many will solve meaningful problems. Many will never find customers. The bottleneck shifts from engineering execution to market validation.
Instead of asking: “Can I build this?”
Entrepreneurs must ask: “Should anyone buy this?”
AI answers the first question brilliantly. It does not answer the second. Replit has dramatically reduced engineering friction. The entrepreneurial friction remains. Imagine if every application created on Replit came with an entrepreneurial co-pilot that asked and helped solve these questions and build viable businesses.
This is precisely the challenge that the One Million by One Million (1Mby1M) global virtual accelerator has focused on for more than fifteen years. The core philosophy of 1Mby1M is that entrepreneurship is a discipline. Building software is only one component.
Founders must also learn customer discovery, positioning, pricing, bootstrapping, financing, sales, partnerships, and execution. These skills remain essential even when AI eliminates much of the engineering effort. Imagine combining Replit’s AI software creation capabilities with the structured entrepreneurship methodology developed by 1Mby1M. It would create a complete entrepreneurial stack instead of simply a software development stack. The combination addresses both dimensions of startup creation: building the product and building the business.
The Bigger Opportunity
Every major technology platform eventually moves up the value chain. Cloud providers evolved into application platforms. Payment companies evolved into commerce ecosystems. CRM vendors evolved into revenue platforms. AI software creation platforms now have the opportunity to evolve into entrepreneurship platforms.
Replit has already democratized software development. Its next opportunity is to democratize entrepreneurial success. Technology alone will not accomplish that. Education, mentorship, customer development, and disciplined execution remain indispensable. That is where organizations like 1Mby1M become highly complementary. Replit can dramatically reduce the cost and complexity of building software, while 1Mby1M can dramatically improve the probability that the software becomes a successful business.
The companies that define the next decade of AI will not necessarily be those that generate the most code. They will be the ones that help create the greatest number of successful entrepreneurs.
