Everybody is a startup mentor these days. On LinkedIn, startup advice is cheap and abundant.
It can also be very BAD.
One fellow was ‘advising’ entrepreneurs to take liquidity as early as possible in the funding process.
I don’t know how many times this person has raised money.
I know this: asking to take liquidity early on is a huge red flag for investors contemplating an investment in your company.
It shows lack of conviction.
It shows lack of commitment.
It shows lack of endurance.
While it’s okay to take some liquidity in Series C, D, or E, it is not at all okay to do so in seed, Series A or Series B.
Not all advice is good advice.
Be careful whom you choose to listen to.

You can get started with Sramana’s Digital Mind AI Mentor right now.
I teach a very specific methodology: Bootstrap First, Raise Money Later.
You could build a Unicorn.
But chances are, you would build a REAL Unicorn, not a FAKE Unicorn with bloated valuations.
And your risk of dying a death by overfunding is considerably lower.
Do you need mentoring to build a REAL business?

The Accelerator Conundrum is a multipart series that challenges the prevailing wisdom of the tech startup ecosystem that entrepreneurs should Blitzscale out of the gate. Written by Sramana Mitra, it emphatically argues that a better strategy is to Bootstrap First, Raise Money Later, focus on customers, revenues and profits. 1Mby1M’s mission is to help a Million entrepreneurs reach a million dollars in annual revenue and beyond.
