SM: When you joined, was it a commercially viable solution?
SS: There was a big gap between the concept and a commercially ready solution. We had investments and a team and had to take the idea and build it into a large-scale enterprise system. That took 18 months. >>>

SM: When did you finally move back to India, and when did you decide to do mChek full time?
SS: We moved back in 2003. Initially, I came to the conclusion that the business was not viable at that point, largely due to Indian regulatory issues. I ended up starting up the Indian operations for Ketera from scratch. >>>
SM: Can you talk about 1993 to 2008?
JD: That was a great time. It seemed that every day the situation improved. >>>
SM: What types of positions did you hold at Integrated Systems?
SS: I was with them for seven years and worked in a variety of roles. I started off in customer support, then moved on to training, international sales, domestic sales, product development, and marketing. >>>

Sanjay Swamy is the CEO of mChek, a mobile payment platform developed in collaboration with VISA. The company has enabled users to access their Indian bank-issued credit or debit card via their cell phones. It has quickly become India’s largest mobile payments platform.
SM: Tell me where your journey begins. Where were you born and raised?
SS: I grew up in India. I was born in Chennai but I am from Bangalore. >>>
SM: Let’s go back to the finance issues. There was tremendous revenue potential in telecast rights.
JD: There were, but we had to fight the Broadcasting Ministry for those rights. Our stance was simple. We believed the ministry was taking all of our money away from us by denying us the opportunity to own our telecast rights. They stated they owned those rights based on some telegraph act passed in 1889. Nobody else had ever heard of it. >>>
