Entrepreneurs are invited to the 137th FREE online 1M/1M roundtable on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. PDT/11:00 a.m. EDT/8:30 p.m. India. If you are a serious entrepreneur, register to “pitch” and sell your business idea to Sramana Mitra. You’ll gain constructive feedback and she’ll answer any of your questions. Others can “attend” to watch and learn. See what entrepreneurs who Mitra has helped say here. You can find more information here and register here. We hope you can join us!
During today’s roundtable, we held the finals of the A&N Media-Elance contest co-hosted by King’s College, London. This was perhaps one of the absolute best sets of pitches at a contest final this year.
Happerture
First, Dr. Dele Omotosho and Michela Menting from London pitched Happerture, a vertical ad network for healthcare mobile apps. As a concept, vertical ad networks have been quite successful, with companies like Glam Media, Travel Ad Network and Adify leading the pack. Happerture’s presentation, however, had other elements of a review site and a storefront for mobile healthcare apps, which confused the pitch somewhat.

During today’s roundtable, we turned the spotlight on Western Massachusetts, spanning the Northampton – Amherst area and the home of Smith College (my undergraduate alma mater), Amherst College, UMass, Mt. Holyoke and Hampshire College.
Bakepedia
First, Dede Wilson from Amherst, Massachusetts, pitched Bakepedia, a site focused on baking, with recipes as well as other kinds of content. Dede’s thesis is that a large portion, almost 6 million, of the allrecipes.com traffic of 25 million consumers is looking for baking related content. She wants to provide validated recipes that are tried and true, based on experiments in a testing kitchen. She is in discussion with potential sponsors such as Kitchen Aid and King Arthur Flour.
I think there is definitely a business opportunity here. The size of the opportunity and the business model (advertising vs. commerce) have yet to be figured out.
