Mentoring 2.0: 150th 1M/1M Online Roundtable Kicks Off Scholarship Contest For Entrepreneurs

Posted on Thursday, Nov 29th 2012

November 29, 2012 – Menlo Park, California: One Million by One Million (1M/1M) celebrated it’s 150th free and online roundtable mentoring session for entrepreneurs today, and celebrated this accomplishment by announcing the New Year Challenge, a competition that will award scholarships to twelve worthy entrepreneurs. 1M/1M is a global virtual incubator for entrepreneurs offering the foremost mentoring solution for the entrepreneur development world.

Sramana Mitra, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, strategist, and founder of 1M/1M, opened today’s roundtable by announcing the New Year Challenge to permit more startup entrepreneurs to benefit from 1M/1M mentoring. Twenty entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to compete for twelve scholarships to the 1M/1M program – worth $1,000 each – by pitching their startup businesses during the 1M/1M online roundtable mentoring sessions on January 10 and January 17, 2013. To apply for this opportunity, entrepreneurs need to complete the application process here by December 20. They then need to have at least 50 of their Facebook friends to vote for them here by January 3, 2013. Finalists will be notified by January 7, 2013, and instructed on preparing their presentations for the January 10 and 17 finals.

The key area in which 1M/1M has been able to make a differentiated impact is in building a scalable mentoring platform that can effectively work with entrepreneurs in almost every corner of the world. Every week entrepreneurs are invited to pitch their businesses for free at a 1M/1M roundtable – a unique virtual mentoring session – as part of the 1M/1M goal to help 1 million entrepreneurs each reach $1 million in annual revenue. Each pitch is followed by an in-depth discussion with Sramana Mitra, which includes immediate answers to questions about strategy, positioning, financing, or any other aspect of a start-up venture. For entrepreneurs who join the 1M/1M premium program, weekly private roundtable sessions offer the opportunity to receive ongoing mentoring as needed, deeper discussions and guidance through new challenges as members progress in building their businesses.

Today’s 150th 1M/1M Roundtable exemplified a typical mentoring session with five entrepreneurs who are premium members of the 1M/1M program pitching and discussing their businesses with Sramana Mitra, including:

-Dan Stewart, Happy Grasshopper
-Kimbra Orr, Kimbra Studios
-Kevin Fullerton, PartingOut.com
-Gülin Yilmaz, OpsVisibility
-Ajit Narayanan, Avaz

You can listen to the recording of the 150th roundtable here:

“It’s hard to believe that we have been running our free mentoring sessions for entrepreneurs since 2008,” says Sramana. “Today, after 150 free mentoring sessions, we can say with confidence that we have a deep perspective into the issues of early stage entrepreneurs. We have created a case study and video lectures based curriculum that addresses 95% of these issues, and gives our premium members a tremendous advantage as they navigate their ways through the wild jungles of startup-land. We are happy to be there with them every step of the way, whenever they need us.”

Some Praise:

“The 1M/1M curriculum is full of incredibly valuable information. I constantly learn from the program and refer back to it often. Along with the curriculum, I have benefited immensely from Sramana’s knowledge and experience, directing me step by step on taking my business to the next level. She is a confident, direct leader who gets a lot done in a short amount of time. Sramana is a highly respected businesswoman who has connected me with major accounts that I had wanted to get in front of for years. The cost of membership has more than paid for itself several times over. I highly recommend the 1M/1M program to any entrepreneur at any stage of business.”

-Kimbra Orr, Founder & CEO, Kimbra Studios

“Sramana listened to my first pitch and summed up our position in one sentence; she can get to the heart of a matter precisely and quickly. She doesn’t tell you what you want to hear, she tells you what you need to know. The curriculum, full of detailed information on marketing and development strategies, has also been a great benefit of joining 1M/1M.”

-Kevin Fullerton, Founder, PartingOut.com

“Sramana’s 1M/1M program offers outstanding value and advice to startup entrepreneurs. The 1M/1M curriculum is well thought out and to the point with case studies; roundtable meetings provide a great framework for exchanging ideas and learning from similar stage entrepreneurs. I highly recommend this program for start-ups and early stage businesses.”

-Vasudeva Akula, Ph.D., Co-Founder, VOZIQ

“1M/1M program has been crucial for me since the very early days of OpsVisibility. I use the program weekly as an ‘ambiguity guide’ to clarify the path of my company.”

-Gülin Yilmaz, Co-Founder & CEO, OpsVisibility

“Sramana is incredibly well connected, experienced and willing to guide early stage founders with support, mentoring and facilitating connections. She has been instrumental in guiding us as part of the 1M/1M incubator and has opened up many doors through her extensive network. I look forward to her support going forward, and hope that her many successes continue.”

– Ali Ahmed, Founder & CEO, Lutebox

“1M/1M provides great advice and connections, and helps you look at your business from a new angle. In short, 1M/1M offers a wonderful sounding board and strategic advice to help you think differently, which is invaluable in the fiercely competitive world around us. The 1M/1M program is the best way to get Sramana Mitra’s insights working for you.”

-Abhishek Rungta, Founder & CEO, Indus Net Technologies

“1M/1M is great when you need good firm advice on how to build/improve/re-invent your business strategy. Sramana knows what it takes to make your business work and make money from it – and that’s what we all need, isn’t it?!”

-Racheli Levkovich, Founder, VP Business Development, Zuznow
