Entrepreneurship Media: Stop Being Pathetic in 2013

We’re hearing this from entrepreneurs all the time: The media will not cover them unless there is a funding announcement.

This cuts out 100% of the self-financed, bootstrapped entrepreneurs who are building marvelous businesses.

This cuts out over 99% of the startups altogether, because less than 1% actually ever get funded.

This cuts out the early stage ventures that are working on their first few customers.

If you dig slightly deeper, you will see that most journalists pretending to be experts in entrepreneurship actually do not have any business background, and zero ability to judge a good business from a bad one. Hence, they wait for VCs to certify that a company is good, worth covering.

Here’s a reminder about the basics of business: Entrepreneurship = Customers + Revenues + Profits; Financing is optional.
