Welcome Problem, Unwelcome Time
It has been a bit of a logistical nightmare these last few days …
I had to make a quick trip to India to attend a funeral. In the midst of travel, mourning, and juggling various professional and family commitments, our website was suspended due to “too much traffic.” It’s most certainly a welcome problem, but at an unwelcome time.
I learned a few things this morning from Alex, our technical admin. Apparently, ISPs run a script such that when one site on a shared server hogs system resources, it kicks in to “suspend” that site, so that it doesn’t drag down all the other sites on the same server.
Makes sense. Except if you are on the receiving end of this “suspension.” When your site is “too successful” you should expect to be suspended.
Well, we didn’t.
Hence, over the last few days, we’re handling a bit of a mess.
I sincerely thank all my readers for causing this “problem” for us, by rewarding me with your interest in my work. I would be grateful for your patience as we sort through this situation, and move the site to a dedicated server, which, we hope will also deliver better performance overall.

I was following your site for quite some time.I am trying to learn a thing or 2 from your postings.Your postings are very detailed and insightful.
When I saw your site down yesterday, it surprised me that this site is on a shared hosting plan. May be you should move to VPS like slicehost.com or some dedicated server.
Hope things are coming back to the normal pace now.
