Amidst huge concerns about Walmart’s numbers, the giant announced its entry into India.
I have said before, that Real Estate and Retail are better investment opportunities in India right now than technology, and it is not a surprise that the big retail companies are going to flock to take advantage of this situation.
I’d rather shop at the bazaar though, when I’m in India, than in some cookie-cutter Walmart store …

It is said that great people think alike but not-so-great people can also do so. I invite you to read my latest post on the entry of Wal-mart to India.
Walmart has not been successful in many countries like germany, korea, france. I am not sure if it will be successful in India, who wants to drive 1 hr to get something less for 5Rs, considering the cost of petrol and horrible driving conditions. Also most indian homes don’t have much storage space or big refrigerators to store even 2 weeks of groccery. I know lot of people who do shopping every other day from the neighborhood shops. I guess malls selling branded fashion goods will be more successful than walmart.
Let’s hope we continue to want to shop at our “bazaars”…
